Matter Cycles in Ecosystems
Photosynthesis
Below are a few different activities that can be used to teach students about photosynthesis.
Firstly, if you've chosen to create terrariums with your students earlier on in the semester, you can also use the closed ecosystem to discuss the fact that oxygen and carbon dioxide are recycled continually throughout the ecosystem. The link below reminds you of how to create a terrarium with your class.

This second link is also a hand on lab that can be done with the class to help them better understand the process of photosynthesis.

In addition to the hands on activities, a worksheet was created that served as assisted notes.

The Water and Carbon Cycle
To teach the water cycle, teachers can us a variety of learning activities including videos, readings and hands on activities. The links below will lead you to a Bill Nye video for the water cycle, a worksheet to accompany the video, a short smartboard presentation with the main definitions of the water cycle, and a series of foldables that can be placed into an interactive notebook or binder.
