Multiple Intelligences and Learning Styles
Multiple Intelligences
The theory of Multiple Intelligences was first developed by Howard Gardner. The theory consists of eight different intelligences which describe an individual's ability to create and solve problems and to create or provide services within society (Giles, et. al).
Below is a summarized chart of the strengths of each of the eight intelligences and a few activities that can be used for each.

Learning Styles
Learning styles are the way in which a person perceives, conceptualizes, organizes and recalls information. Sue Davidoff and Owen Van den Berg (1990) suggest that there are four main reasons for why teachers should teach to the different learning styles within the classroom.
- Students are able to learn more quickly and retain more information if the method of teaching caters to their learning style.
- When students are doing well in school, they feel better about themselves, this intern positively affects their learning.
- Teaching to specific learning styles may motivate those learners.
- Ability to build a stronger student-teacher relationship through student interests and success.
