Sudden Earth Events
Earthquakes
To start off the lesson, a video was shown to excite students and to begin the thought process. The video discusses the Pacific Ring of Fire. The first 3 minutes were shown.

Other resources were also used in delivering a lesson on earthquakes. To differentiate for learning styles, students were shown a video (visual), read to out of the textbook (auditory) and worked through different stations to observe faults and better understand the strength of earthquakes.

This link is to an activity designed to link LA and Science. Students read a book about earthquakes and then work to find the epicenter of an earthquake.

Volcanoes
In addition to earthquakes, volcanoes are also sudden earth events. I compiled several different resources within this unit to teach students about volcanoes and how they can alter earth's crustal layer.
The first link is for the SMARTboard presentation.

The next three links are for a volcano diagram and a corresponding worksheet.

Finally, I've attached a link to a demonstration which illustrates the formation of volcanoes.
